Kate Walz
Stewardship Field Technician

I AM… Thoughtful, hard-working, helpful, creative, observant, caring, avid reader, music lover

I BELIEVE… In learning and connecting with place through stewardship of the land. Nature is not some far off place devoid of people. Reducing plant blindness in self and others can help people appreciate and support nature all around them. Holistic landscaping and restoration efforts to heal our relationship with the land.

BIO Kate joined the Stewardship team at the end of 2022. Having lived in Charlottesville for 17 years, she wanted to learn more about local native plants through working with them while expanding on her previous landscaping knowledge. She enjoys working outside, learning new things everyday, and traveling around the Charlottesville area to work sites.

Kate received a B.A in Psychology from Reed College in Portland, OR. During college, she began working with the Reed’s Grounds Crew. She helped support restoration efforts on the campus and realized she often enjoyed her landscaping work more than her studies. Kate returned to Charlottesville after graduating and worked various jobs related to her degree, but found that she missed working outside with plants.
