April 11, 2011. A Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards hike: What are Trees Telling You? …a tree expedition at Secluded Farm.
Description: When one explores the factors that determine where different trees grow, one discovers the web of connections and relationships that bind each tree to the place that gives it life. Join Devin Floyd of Blue Ridge Discovery Center for a first-hand look at the primary forces that influence where and how trees grow, including soils, geology, lay of the land, and human land use.
Participants will explore a variety of ways to identify trees while learning how trees can unveil stories of the past and give us ways to imagine the future. Participants can expect to visit a couple of spectacular native specimens (including a newly discovered national champion tree!).
